- Drawing with Jules -
~
For 8 years prior to his death in 2007 Jules Olitski and drew during the summers and into the fall at his studio on Bear Island. He only worked at night so I would arrive with a model by boat at 6 o’clock or so and we would spend the evening drawing.
I was trained in a classical figure style, honed in Florence, Italy—conte' on paper.
Over time, as we worked, influenced by Jules expressive style, I began to experiment with materials and color. I think I made well over 200 drawings during this time.
